Originally from Belgium, Renate moved to Taranaki, New Zealand in 1995. She was introduced to Stone Sculpture in 1999 and has since participated in over 50 symposia and numerous exhibitions worldwide.

Renate is a member of Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Society and ISSA (International Sculpture Symposium Alliance)
In 2019 she organized the first international sculpture symposium in Waregem, Belgium.
