TE KUPENGA BIENNIAL INTERNATIONAL STONE SCULPTURE SYMPOSIA

he Te Kupenga Biennial International Stone Sculpture Symposium is a two yearly event run on the New Plymouth foreshore. The event brings together international, national and local sculptors to create with the local Andesite boulders as their medium.  Three weeks of sculpting are followed by a one week exhibition concluding with a public auction. The sculpture symposia can be viewed in person from New Plymouth's coastal walkway as well as through the information and updates

The symposium is a major attraction for visitors and locals alike and is unique for New Zealand. The Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Society is most appreciative of this public support and thanks the sponsors for assisting to showcase an international event of this caliber.

For inquiries about any of the previous works, sculptors or about future applications please contact Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Society using our contact form.

We are very grateful to the New Plymouth District Council for their generous support by way of funding and their provision of such an ideal foreshore site for the symposia. Positioned as they are, beside the sea and the splendid public walkway, below the Wind Wand and fully serviced with power and water; this is a perfectly located symposia attracting visitors from Taranaki and beyond.

Te Kupenga gratefully acknowledges the financial support of TSB Community Trust over many symposia. The symposia are also supported by many local businesses allowing Te Kupenga to run the only international-standard symposium in New Zealand, and one of the few remaining hard stone events. In return we are able to further New Plymouth’s distinction as a nationally recognized center for excellence in sculpture.
