Mike has been sculpting stone since 2016, after attending a workshop at Te Kupenga. He has a background in geology and has found that carving stone provides a necessary creative outlet from his demanding working life.
Mike’s sculptures are mainly inspired by natural organic forms such as ammonites and other cephalopods. Taranaki andesite is a beautiful stone which lends itself to creating a diverse array of, textures and finishes. He enjoys the processes as much as creating the finished forms. This will be Mike’s first Symposium and he is looking forward to the experience of working alongside some highly talented sculptors.
