Claire Sadler I started stone carving in 2006 with a course run by Te Kupenga. I admit I did it just for fun (bored house wife !) and never expected to become hooked. My first day was thrilling and I haven't looked back since. I am privileged to be still learning from and supported by Te Kupenga, and mentored by John McLean. My current approach is to let the stone speak for itself and though I mostly work in an abstract style, I prefer to come to each piece without a preconceived design in mind. Every rock is different with huge variation in colour, texture and nature, that it becomes an amazing journey of discovery for me. The symposium creates for me a challenge to become completely immersed in sculpting without day to day distractions and is an excellent opportunity to push myself, my skills and my learning to new heights. |
