Renate Verbrugge

I was born in Belgium, and moved to New Zealand in 1995. Here, Filipe Tohi introduced me to stone sculpture in 1999, and I never looked back. Sculpting stone has become part of my life, it has been a passionate adventure all along. Sculpture has given me the opportunity to discover myself, enrich my inner being, meet wonderful people and travel the world.

I sculpt purely from inspiration... by letting go of the mental self and listening only to intuition. Therefore, my sculptures are to be enjoyed with your eyes, with your hands, with your heart and guts... no need for intellectual explanation.
