Stone sculpture is an enjoyable and stimulating artistic pursuit. Working with hard stone is of particular interest, especially our local Taranaki Andesite, which I find both a challenging and rewarding media for sculpture. I joined the Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Society after attending an andesite sculpture workshop following the 2006 symposium. I greatly value and appreciate the support and camaraderie of this talented and diverse artistic group. It is exciting to be participating in the 2008 symposium, and is a wonderful opportunity for me to develop as a sculptor and to learn from the many national and international artists involved. I hope to make a positive contribution to this important biannual event, and intend to savour the experience and the beautiful foreshore setting.
